Wired Campus: E-Learning and Its Challenges Increase at Community Colleges – Chronicle.com.

The Chronicle of Higher Education reports on a survey of community colleges by the Instructional Technology Council, an affiliate of the American Association of Community Colleges.  The finding that jumped out at me is this:

In 2007, 77 percent of colleges said they used Blackboard and WebCT; in 2008 that was down to 59 percent.

In other words, a quarter of all community colleges using Bb/WebCT bailed in just one year.  On the other hand, Angel Learning doubled its share (according to the survey) from 10 percent to 20 percent in the same one-year period.

The Chronicle speculates that the Blackboard patent lawsuit might be a factor.  Perhaps the would-be monopolists of eLearning picked up a lawyer and shot themselves in the foot.
